Welcome to the ECE 483/583 Guided Wave Optics web site. This site contains information and downloadable materials for the class and laboratory that you will need during the course. Below are links to the documentation for each required lab experiment. You should download the PDF file that corresponds to each experiment and complete the preparatory reading and questions before your assigned lab time. Keep in mind that your preparation for each experiment will help you be successful in the lab.

Lab 5 (Week 5) – Attenuation / Dispersion / OTDR / Fusion splicing (demo)/ Quiz on Lab 4
Lab 6 (Week 6) – Er-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and WDM / Fiber laser (demo)/ Quiz on Lab 5
Project (Week 7) – Project proposal / Start project / Progress report / Specs on various Corning fibers: 100/140; 62.5/125; SMF 28; InfiniCor300; InfiniCor600; donated Corning fiber

Week 8 – Progress report

Week 9 – Progress report / finish project

Week 10 – Project demonstrations to class / Final reports
