CS 468/568: Fall 2018: Inclusive Design (Tentative) Schedule

- Week 0 (9/21): Introduction: What is inclusive design?
- Introduction
- Assignment of temporary teammate (for HW #1 only)
- Week 1 (9/24-...): What are personas, persona lifecycle, how do you design/use them, what do people say about them.
- Read textbook Chapters 1-2.
- Look over Appendix B & C with an eye toward HW #1.
- Monday: Discussion of project possibilities.
- Monday-Friday: Personas Lifecycle and "Family planning", More on project possibilities, how personas fit into PRICPE
- No class Wednesday. Dr. Burnett is keynoting at ICSME on gender bias 'bugs' in software.
- Friday: Team skills inventory activity, Project roles.
- HW #1 is due Friday 9/28 electronically via TEACH and printed on paper (one per team) by 9:00 am
- Week 2 (10/1-...): Persona Family Planning, and what does exclusion look like for Your population
- Mon: Family planning and Abby
- Monday-Friday: User capabilities and exclusion
- No class Wednesday. Dr. Burnett is at IEEE VLHCC talking about ways to do gender-inclusive design and about the GenderMag tool on OSS.
- Friday: Project Installment #1 is due Friday electronically via TEACH and printed on paper (one per team) by 9:00 am
- Read textbook Chapter 3 (Family Planning)
- Week 3 (10/8-...): Persona Family Planning, and what does exclusion look like for Your population (cont.)
- Week 4 (10/15-...): Your populations (cont.)
- Week 5 (10/22-...): From Research to Personas
- Week 6 (10/29-...): From Personas to Designs
- Week 7 (11/5-...): From Personas to Designs (cont.)
- Mon 11/5: Hands-on: Applying GenderMag-like methods to your own projects (part 1)
- Wed, 11/7: Midterm exam. "Open note-card": You can bring two 3x5 notecards in with whatever notes written on them that you want. (Both sides, any font).
- Fri 11/9: Hands-on: Applying GenderMag-like methods to your own projects (part 2)
- Fri 11/9: Extra credit for Voting due date (9:00 am).
- Week 8 (11/12-...):

- Week 10 (11/26-...): Final project presentations of the rest of your term projects, and Wrap-Up. Each should be 20 minutes + 5 minutes for QA. Here's the form to give more feedback.
