Who Are My TAs?

Alex Niebur

Bonjour! My name is Alexander Niebur, but just call me Alex. I am a junior Computer Science Systems student in the pro-school program. This is my second year as a TA and I am readily available to help you succeed! I started studying Computer Science during my senior year of high school and whilst I struggled at first, I managed to get a hang of it halfway through the year. This class might seem daunting at first, and you need help, send me an email, and I will find time in my schedule to assist you, even on weekends! Besides Computer Science, I also volunteer at Orange Media Network as a member of their gaming show The Challenger alongside their talk show The Conversation. My primary job for the show is audio engineering, but from time to time, I have been on camera and having a good time!

Taz Thenell

Hello, my name is Taz (Tasman really but I never go by that name) and I'm a 4th year computer science major in the systems option. I'm a Corvallis native and I attended Corvallis High School before coming to OSU. My passions include music and teaching. I've been part of the Oregon state Symphony for 6 years and I currently play assistant principle Viola. As far as teaching goes, I would eventually like to be a professor. One way I've tried to prepare myself for that goal is by TAing you rascals for more than two years.

Phillip Mestas

Hi, my name is Phillip Mestas. I'm a TA for CS. I am from Portland, OR, and I attended Centennial High School. I'm a second year CS student in the systems option. This summer I will be interning at Google in Mountian View, CA! I have previous expierance in the OSU Robotics club, and I am involved in research along with extracurricular activities here at OSU. I love talking about anything CS related or OSU related, so please come talk to me in my office hours or email me. I love hearing about what students are doing, and I'm happy to share my experiances with you and help you create your own.

Thang Kim (LK)

Hello, my name is Thang Kim but I go by LK. This is my first term being a TA, and I look foward to working with you all. I am doing the applied option with a business and entrepreneurship minor. I'm a TA for CS. The person above me is a really smart.

Billy Buffum

I'm a TA for CS

Megan McCormick

Hello, my name is Megan McCormick. I am a Senior in Electrical and Computer Engineering and I'm also a TA for ECE112. I started teaching in high school as both a tutor and a music teacher at an elementry school. Taking CS161 as a freshman was my first coding experience and I found out that I really enjoyed it. In my free time I can often be found at Benton practicing violin or playing video games with my friends. Fun facts about me: I wasn't born here I'm from Soc Trang, Vietnam, I was adopted and brought here as a baby. I've been playing violin for 13 years. I am a member of the OSU Univeristy Choral and the Chamber Orchestra. I design and make my own cosplay costumes and props for Kumoricon and other conventions every year.

Louis Duvoisin

Hey all, my name is Louis, I'm a third year CS student from Portland. Something interesting about me is I hate writing bios.

Katherine Bajno

Hi, I'm Katherine! I'm a senior in Computer Science with a focus in Human-Computer Interaction from New York. I like video games, the outdoors, and napping. I came into the 16X series without any previous coding experience. It was frustrating at times, but I took advantage of many office hours and ended up loving the major. I also switched my major/option seven times, so don't worry if you can't decide what to do :)

Ty Haggerty

Conner Maddalozzo

Hullo, Conner here. Im in the computer science applied option, I like physics and computer science. i like drawing and doodling, and sometimes I code short animations. I am an off and on gamer that plays when he can. when i want to take my entertainment into my own hands I really like drawing and doodling.

if you want to start animating you can do it too, easily with python!
(from visual import*
Or also something more complex, javascript:
require(three.js)).

i really enjoy talking about c++, and helping out with it too.:P

Jesse Chick

Hi all, Jesse Chick here. This is year two for me at Oregon State and as a CS161 TA. Parallel to my computer science major, I study American literature as an English major and teach a class on rhetoric and argument (HC199) with my thesis advisor, Dr. Eric Hill. My approach to teaching is simple: share a lot of ideas, evaluate performance based on what's really important, and have ten tons of fun doing it.

A few pieces of humble wisdom I gained the hard way:
* Don't be one of those "hotshot programmers," no matter how many years you've spent coding away; you'll annoy way more people than you'll impress.
* Don't leave a programming assignment until the weekend it's due; programming is not like some essay you can bs in a couple of hours.
* Read a book. Pushing ones and zeros around for too long will get to you...

Johannes Freischuetz

Hi, my name is Johannes. I am a second year student in Computer Science doing the systems option. If you have any questions send me an email.

Hannah Vaughan

Hi, I'm Hannah! I'm a second year Computer Science major in the applied option. Coding can be difficult, so I want to help you out! Whether you're heavily experienced or this is your first time learning code, understanding comes in different ways, shapes, and forms. So, feel free to reach out to me for assistance anytime! (Really, anytime!) :) In my free time, I like to crochet, play video games, explore, and learn new things. Random skills or hobbies are always cool in my book!

Yuhang Chen (Tony)

Hi. I am Tony! I am a sophomore student of Computer Science. I like coding a lot and this is my first year TA. I got A in all my 16x classes. Welcome to ask me questions!

Henry Peterson

Hello, I am Henry Peterson. I'm from Beaverton, Oregon and I am a junior at oregon state doing the systems option for computer science. Ask about computer science or anything else, some light conversation is always apreciated.

Yipeng Song (Roger)

Hi! I am Yipeng Song, and you can also call me Roger. I am a senior CS student at Oregon State doing system option as well as a math minor. I love watching sports and making new friends. I had two internships before, one at Intel Corporation, and one at a Nike agency company. In addition, I used to be the Co-president for the Chinese Association at OSU, holding events for up to 800 people. As a TA for CS16X courses, I wish I could help you be a better programmer and be more confident for your future CS classes. Besides, I am able to speak either English or Chinese during demo sessions.

Lucas Campos-Davis

Hi, my name is Lucas and I'm a third year CS major. When I came to OSU I had absolutely no programming experience. I'm from Hood River, Oregon but surprisingly I don't windsurf or kiteboard. In my free time I enjoy spending time outdoors hiking, camping, and running. For the days that outside is less than fun, I enjoy watching Netflix, playing a variety of video games, and reading (My current favorite series is The dresden Files).

Matthew Sessions

Hi everyone, I am a Linux enthusiast and a Sophomore in Electrical Engineering. This is my first term as a CS16X TA, and I look forward to seeing progression through the term. Will gladly help students with Linux. < BTW I script my own Arch disks >
