Class Policies

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course. However students should know the following:

• Basic probability and statistics
• Simple calculus - taking derivatives and integrals of simple equations
• Big O notation for the complexity of algorithms (this is a minor issue - come see me if you don't know what this is and I can explain it very quickly)
• Programming skills (language to be determined but will likely be Matlab).

Accommodations

Students with documented disabilities who may need accommodations, who have any emergency medical information the instructor should be aware of, or who need special arrangements in the event of evacuation, should make an appointment with the instructor as early as possible, and no later than the first week of the term. Class materials will be made available in accessible format upon request.

Grading

An approximate weighting of the marks in the course is listed below. This may change slightly depending on the number and size of the assignments.

• Final Project - 37.5%
• Assignments (top 4) - 37.5%
• Midterm - 20%
• Participation - 5 %

Policy on collaboration

You are permitted to discuss homework questions in general terms with your classmates. Do not just give each other the answers. In addition, students are expected to write up the assignments by themselves. You are not permitted to use documentation from off the internet unless you are explicitly told to do so in the assignment.

Late Policy

Assignments are due at the start of class. The late policy is as fol lows:

• 0-24 hours late: 90% of the final score
• 24-48 hours late: 75% of the final score
• 48-72 hours late: 50% of the final score
• After 72 hours late: 0%
